Here are two stats that point to one of the main causes of the disaffection currently felt by so many employees – INEQUALITY.
-
From 1979 to 2020, net worker productivity rose 61.8%, but workers’ wages only rose 17.5%. [1]
-
Meanwhile, CEO pay skyrocketed by more than 1,209% — over 18 times the productivity growth.[2]
Are you addressing this pain point in your organization?

[2] CEO pay slightly declined in 2022
On average, organizations pay for results not productivity. On average, machines are made to increase productivity.
On average, organizations/leaders are not closing that gap. That gap has probably been growing for 30/35 years.
And I get to coach into that gap, make a contribution and continue my livelihood … by my clients getting results.
Len, I am sure your work with leaders helps them to understand that inequality is uninspiring and that you help them to create a more equitable sharing of income.
Imagine your doctor telling you 80% of your body is sick and in decline! You would be wondering if death is near. That’s how it is with 80%+ of employees, including 60%+ of managers ,in the USA and Europe (Deloit survey) who are “emotionally disengaged” from their work. They are not inspired, creative, innovative and willing to initiate.
An essential first step to ensure your people are engaged: When you recruit, make sure applicants are clear about their “life’s calling” and their values and that there is a close fit between these and the purpose and values of your company.
Christopher, during every speech I make, I ask the question, “How many people do you thin wouod quit their day jobs if they had a free choice?” and the anser is alwayss 80%. If we are such fantastic leaders, why do 8 out of ten people want to run? We are working with old paradigms that are alienating peopel. The Galup Annual Engagement Survey has remained the same for 40 years – the figures youm shared here have not changed in that time. Time for a new playbook. https://www.secretan.com/thebellwethereffect
