We Teach the Student What We Need Most to Learn

My friend Shonnie Lavender came to ski with me recently at my home in Colorado. (Read her blog). As she is also a business associate, we talked business. And we also talked skiing. We had a marvellous day and we discussed our shared business issues, and I also taught her some techniques to help with her skiing. As I did so, I marvelled at how the lessons I was imparting to Shonnie were just as valuable in helping me to brush up my own technique. As I practiced what I was teaching, I began to ski better. What a great metaphor, I realized: being willing to absorb and LIVE the message that we are so quick to preach to others. As Jazz great Charlie Parker said, “If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn!” Check out our Leadership Summit – you could learn the same thing!
