Protect the Arctic Wildlife Refuge

I understand that all the available oil in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge would only be able to meet America’s needs for 6 months and sacrificing the Refuge would lower gas prices by only a penny per gallon — in 20 years. But the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge, untouched by development is where the Porcupine caribou herd comes to birth its calves, where polar bears make their dens, and where migratory birds from every state in the union flock to in the summer. You can see for yourself the incredible wildlife of the Refuge in this short video shot last summer. This is Canada’s territory too ??? but Senate and House votes in the US could destroy Canada’s wildlife patterns in this area ??? and Canada has no voice.

We’re now at the 11th hour — this week could be your last chance to protect one of America’s treasures — the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge! The House is expected to vote as early as this Thursday on a bill that would allow drilling in the long-protected Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as well as revoke the 24-year old moratorium on offshore drilling. The Senate has already approved this damaging and short-sighted move

To date, the Sierra Club has received over 50,000 signatures on their petition to protect the Arctic Refuge and with this critical vote in mind; they’ve set a goal of reaching 100,000 signatures by Wednesday night. Once they have reached that goal, they will deliver the 100,000 signatures to Capitol Hill and send a clear message to Congress to oppose Arctic drilling. Your action is urgently needed to help meet this goal of 100,000 signatures and protect the Arctic Refuge — please take a minute to add your name to our petition and encourage your friends and family to do the same!
