Guidelines for using this Vector Coaching Plan (see sample below)
Under the “PRIMARY VALUES” column, under “MASTERY” identify a skill, task or ability that you would like to grow over a specified time period and write this in the next column under “ASPIRATION”
In the next column, ”STATUS TODAY 0-10”, Identify the current status of this skill or ability on a scale of 0 to 10—where you stand in your journey towards realization of this aspiration—where zero is nonexistent and 10 is almost perfect.
Under the heading “ACCELERATOR” enter the specific learning upon which you will need to embark in order to achieve the greater Mastery you have identified.
In the next column under “STATUS TODAY 0-10” identify the current status of your learning at this time, i.e., if all your desired learning had been completed (10), where do you stand, on a scale of 0 to 10, where zero is almost nonexistent and 10 is almost perfect.
Finally, subtract column 6 from column 3 and enter the number in column 7 (this may result in positive or negative values). This Vector Coaching Plan will automatically calculate that for you. This is your Vector.
Here is an example:
The Vector: After you insert a numerical value for each of these items a value will automatically be calculated in the right-hand column—this is the “Vector”. The dictionary defines a Vector as “a quantity possessing both magnitude and direction.” In other words, a Vector is a forward indicator of the anticipated rate and direction of change, given the current levels of the Primary Value and the Accelerator. If you subtract the Primary Value (in this example, Mastery at 6) from the associated Accelerator (in this example Learning at 2), the resulting number, positive or negative, (minus 4 in this example) is the Vector
