Oneness Inspires
Some years ago, I was Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Special Olympics World Winter Games – the largest sporting event on the planet that year. I was being interviewed on TV and when the interview was over, a colleague asked, "Did you realize that you were being interviewed by a Special Olympian?" I had no idea because I had not been "cued" to think of the interviewer as "different" or "separate" – no one had warned me or briefed me – the interviewer and I were, as a result, ONE.
When I was handing out medals in 1997, the Nordic Skiing Gold Medalist turned to the silver medalist and said, "I already have two gold medals, but I do not have a silver medal yet. Would you like to exchange your silver for my gold?" I marvelled at the oneness of spirit among these wonderful athletes.
Last week, Copper Mountain, Colorado hosted Special Olympians as they have done for 28 years. In the evening, Special Olympics athletes danced on the floor of JJ’s Tavern to the music of Moe Dixon, just as joyfully as the rest of us. We are ONE.
I learned a lot from Special Olympians, and the Special Olympics movement – especially about ONENESS.
Check out this video for a truly inspiring reminder of ONENESS in the world – we can all make the world a better place – as long as we look for the Oneness in each other and discard our tendency to focus on our separateness.
